Code of Conduct

What This Platform Is For

nyc-rides.bike is a place for cycling clubs and individuals to post rides and find people to ride with in New York City. Established clubs use it to reach more riders. People who aren't part of any club use it to organize their own rides. New groups can form here.

This code of conduct is the baseline for everyone on the platform. Clubs may have their own standards on top of this, but every person and every club on nyc-rides.bike agrees to at least this much.

We believe cycling should be accessible to people of every race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, body size, age, religion, national origin, immigration status, socioeconomic background, and experience level. Cycling has historically been shaped by exclusion -- by cost, by culture, by who feels "allowed" to show up. We reject that. Everyone is welcome here.

Expected Behavior

  • Be kind. On the platform and on rides. Assume good intentions. Give people room to learn.
  • Communicate clearly. If you're posting a ride, be honest about pace, distance, and difficulty. Set expectations so people can make good decisions about whether a ride is right for them.
  • Respect different abilities. Not everyone rides at the same pace or has the same experience. That's the point. Make space for people.
  • Look out for each other. Call out hazards, wait at turns, check on someone who's struggling. We ride as a community, not as a race.

Unacceptable Behavior

This applies to everything you do on the platform and during any ride organized through it:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or threats of any kind
  • Slurs, derogatory language, or personal attacks based on identity
  • Discrimination or deliberate exclusion of anyone based on who they are
  • Sexual content, unwanted sexual attention, or inappropriate physical contact
  • Doxxing or sharing someone's personal information without consent
  • Deliberately unsafe riding that puts others at risk
  • Retaliation against someone who reports a concern

Enforcement

We will remove content and block users at our discretion to protect the community. We don't owe anyone a warning, a second chance, or a detailed explanation, though we'll try to be reasonable.

If you experience or witness behavior that violates this code, or if you have questions, email platform@nyc-rides.bike.
